You just reminded me of a great story that I could tell about me and the 18-year-old
bank teller and my CD of 1930's blues guitar greats, but I think I'll save it and put it
in an OP sometime.
.
I do have another story. Once, I took a date to a bar where a young guy who was an
accomplished blues guitarist/vocalist of that era's music was playing. He was amazing
and my date also fell in love with the genre. At one point, he asked for requests and I
yelled out "Blind Boy Fuller". He played one of his songs and, during his next break,
came over to our table, introduced himself and asked if he could sit down.
.
Duh.
.
We talked music in general and those blues in particular and he told me that no one
had EVER requested Blind Boy Fuller before and he just HAD to come over and meet
the guy who had.

It pays to know (about) people!!!

... they brought out their gigantic field kitchen trucks and we had a FANTASTIC party
in the middle of the woods. They also brought much much MUCH beer and schnapps.
.
The dinner was a delicacy of theirs -- some sort of pig hock/pig foot thing. I was able
to take one tentative (eventually unswallowed) bite and decided to fill up on the side
dishes.
.
I vaguely remember their company commander repeatedly leaping ACROSS the bonfire
arm-in-arm with our youngest rawest lieutenant.
.
Boy, do the Germans EVER know how to party.
.
.
.
But somebody should talk to them about that pigfoot thing.

(36,827 posts)The chow hall at Ramstein had a big bowl of mayonnaise on the salad bar and I never knew why until I saw some Belgian troops spooning it out for their french fries. It was the first time I had heard of this. I tried it and it wasn't bad, but I think I'll stick with ketchup.
LiberalLoner
(9,762 posts)Out west some people call that "fry sauce" and I think it's really good, better than either one alone by itself!

At home, I usually put both a dollop of ketchup AND a dollop of mayo on my plate
when I'm splurging and having Freed... um ... French fries.

BTW, when talking with a RW'er, casually ask them "How're them Freedom fries
working out for you guys?"

My favorite "different" thing to do with eggs is that I put minced tuna into the
yolks of my deviled eggs. I never EVER get to bring any home from a potluck.
.

.
If it sounds weird, think of how many people put diced eggs into their tuna salad.

(12,132 posts)because all that shit looks great. And I have never even had a pickled egg.
AnneD
(15,774 posts)I just hard boiled some eggs and put then in spicy pickle juice and let them marinate for a month. They were great, especially with salads. Hubby loved them.
Edited to add...that is a great way to preserve extra eggs.
OriginalGeek
(12,132 posts)so there's no good reason for me to not have had a pickled egg any longer.
In fact, I have a big jar of Famous Dave's spicy pickles nearing it's end - Hmmmmmmmmmmmmm
Do you remove the shells before putting them in the juice?
AnneD
(15,774 posts)otherwise the juice cannot marinate into the egg.
Thanks for the info!
