Cats will bring "gifts" to their humans as their token of appreciation. Don't use human standards to judge kitty behavior; just take the mouse, wrap it up, and throw it out.

I got it out of her mouth and it was not hurt. Unfortunately it escaped inside and hid in my bathroom for almost two days. I had to get Sam to catch it again so I could set it free outside. It all worked out except Sam was furious at me.

it made a break for the office, but she got it back and held it just long enough for me to get the back door open and get it away from her.

she immediately went back outside, presumably to find it again. she hasn't talked to me yet today.
