A funny moment the other night - just about to head for bed, needed to plug in my laptop

so it would charge overnight - in went the plug, all the lights in the house went out, heard a noise like a generator blowing. Was 1 AM, I was not thinking clearly - so wondered...did something short out in my adapter - could it have blown the breakers? Looked outside - neighborhood in darkness....could I have blown out the main generator in North Raleigh?!?!

Just one of those completely unhinged, confused moments when a WTF event happens and you think you did something far worse than reality!

So what happened? Yes, a local generator blew....our power was out til 3 AM - but the timing was exquisite!

I will turn off a circuit breaker and the furnace (On a different circuit) will turn off. Sometimes it can be quite unsettling. Lol

in 1965.

Our TV was acting up. My father was all annoyed...told me to go over and adjust the rabbit ears (people of a certain age would remember those). Nothing. Told me to change the channel (no remote controls back then, only four or five channels), which I did. As soon as I did, all the lights in the house went out.

Dad went into the basement to see if a fuse had blown. No. That's when we noticed there were no lights in our neighbors' homes (dinnertime in early November).

We got out the battery powered radio and found out that the lights were going off all over the Northeast.

I thought...uh, oh...I'm really in trouble here (I was 13 at the time)!!!! I single-handedly wiped out the entire Northeast....

Next day we learned what really happened:
