A buck or two, maybe. Two years worth of drought has driven prices up pretty high. And, the fact that the Chinese are willing to pay top dollar for them, isn't helping matters. Walnuts are ridiculously expensive, too.

up here too and we don't have a lot of choice, no Costco or anything around here. Just grit our teeth and pay for them.

Sad day when cashews are some of the cheapest around. Most nuts around here are about $14.00#.

because I just sent him a small bag of homegrown, hand cracked for x-mas. If they are going for that much I won't look like such a cheapskate.

My husband buys up bags of pecans then and we store them in the freezer. I've used frozen pecans 2-3 years after purchase and they have always been fine. I've got to make my list of what I need to buy to make my pecan pies for Christmas! Thanks for the reminder.

are the walnuts, is what I want to know!

This past summer some neighbors inundated us with vegies from their garden, including tons of zucchini squash.

I wanted to make zucchini bread and needed walnuts.

They used to sell walnuts in big cellophane bags. I was hard pressed to find any at all, and they were in dinky little bags that were outrageously priced.

I bought them but wasn't happy.
