How soon before the holidays do you know your work schedule?

My employer only posted a schedule covering 12/21 - 1/3 late in the afternoon of the 20th.

My husband knows he will be working Christmas Eve, but his employer will not tell them how late he and his co-workers have to work that evening, until such time as they dismiss them.

It sucks enough to not be paid enough, and various other ways employers have of telling employees how unimportant they are, but I really hate this one.

How's by you?

Mr. Brickbat, who works on the railroad, knows his days off a week in advance, but doesn't know his schedule until he's called for it that day. It's a little disruptive.

my old job was similar to that, I wouldn't really know if I could even take off if I needed to. Now with the company I work for we have set off days. We get Christmas/New Years, their eves and Thanksgiving and the day after.. Get a half day today too. I feel your pain though, for the last 10 years I worked jobs that did not guarantee time off on Holidays. Ive had to work Thanksgiving and Christmas days in the past.

I work in a psychiatric hospital and they post our schedules three-weeks in advance. Short-term that's fine but it makes it hard to make long-term plans.

Employers would do themselves a favor if they actually cared about morale and did more to support workers. Treat employees bad enough and they'll start looking for a different job.
