2012 really sucked - just having it turn into 2013 will be an improvement

2012 was pretty exceptional - don't expect 2013 to be able to match it

(60,336 posts)Started exciting but quickly went in the dumper and then got much better as spring approached. There were a few milestones this year, most of them from the average to accomplishments.
The roller coaster took anther plunge late in the fall that leaves some big question marks for the new year. January is going to be trying with some questions that will have to be answered and will most assuredly effect the rest of the year.
We do have a big event in the spring that will be a high point providing we can get through the next month unscathed.

(60,015 posts)Some family things (one daughter having issues)...loss of income....on the negative side
Signed a book deal, other daughter doing well, great garden on the positive side.
If our girl can make some progress, just that alone will make for a better year.

(60,015 posts)Then photography and editing - book should be out 2014.
Hoping it leads to further books, and some speaking engagements.

(53,410 posts)My union actually got us a raise which was proactive from 2011 and then another one in July. They got us a 5 year contract with raises every year.
Since 2005 I've had to take care of my mother who became bedridden and suffered from Dementia which I had to quit work for a couple of years and live off my retirement and her small pension, until my son moved back from NY to help me so I could go back to work. She finally succumbed to pancreatic cancer in 2009 and died in early 2010. Also in 2009 I was laid off, but fortunately was rehired into the much smaller staff they wanted. Within months after my mother died, because her pension was no longer coming in, I had to declare bankruptcy so I could keep the condo, then I had to fight foreclosure until the mortgage company granted me a loan modification, then I scraped by until my union finally got a contract, which took years to get.
In 2012 I became vested and I again have a retirement that's building up. I actually made it through the last few months without having to borrow money. I'm very close to paying off my friends who believing in me and loaning me money when I needed it. I hope 2013 sees me in a much better financial position. The worry over money for so many years has been exhausting.
I have no plans to retire, because I simply can't but I consider myself lucky to be healthy and employed. I do have some recourses now that I'm 64. When I turn 66 I can apply as a divorced spouse for my ex-husband's social security and keep working and can keep my ss growing until I do have to stop working. Getting his social security won't impact him or any dependents he may have so I won't be taking anything away from him or his.
All I really want is to stop worrying constantly about finances. I've done enough of that.

(149,635 posts)I'm getting my poems published a little bit at a time, and I'm strengthening my craft. I love the feeling that comes with writing well, and with knowing what I have to do to write well.
I took a week-long vacation to visit some good friends, and we had a blast. It was one of the most satisfying trips I've ever had...
My grandchildren are growing up, and they are a credit to their parents. It is a joy to see them!
Next year should be more of the same...
Happy New Year, my dear NRaleighLiberal!

(11,795 posts)but my quest for permanent employment continues into 2013. My grandpa died, so that really sucked.
But, nobody shot anyone I know, I'm healthy, my husband is healthy and happy, so I hate to whine about anything.

(46,179 posts)That would have been 2000/01
The last 7 years have all sucked, as I watched my life slowly and steadily collapse around me; I might have weathered it better if the worst year/s hadn't happened.

(23,244 posts)Only good thing about 2012 was the election, although my state stayed pretty red overall.
Having a serious "fear" of the number 13, I dread next year, but I guess I'll have to fight thru it. Maybe something good will happen in spite....keepin' fingers crossed..............

(32,086 posts)Same shit, different year. I have given up the idea that things might get better next year.

(6,336 posts)It honestly started at the end of February at a job related training I went to. I got a huge promotion at work, landed in a new state that I really like, and I met someone that I truly care deeply about (at that training).
This is after 2011 brought me getting dumped as I moved halfway across the country, the death of my cat, and being screwed over by my local Democratic party. Anything could be better than that.
What a difference a year makes. I'm not saying good riddance to 2012.
