Is there a gaming device that does NOT require internet to use it?

I want to buy a gaming device for a relative in a nursing home. She does NOT have an internet connection, wireless or wired.

I had a Nintendo a milion years ago, and something else, so I know a bit about the OLD ones. But it looks like the new ones have internet built in. All the info about them in the retail sites play up the internet connection, pointing out how wonderful it is, because everyone wants that, right? Except me. And what the retail info does not say is if you can use the device fully without using the internet.

Does anyone know? I can go to the stores, but I'm gonna guess the sales staff won't know.

Next step is to e-mail the game console manufacturers.

1. Being able to is not the same as needing it to play the games.

Most games my daughter has for Xbox and Playstation (newish, but not newest) are playable offline.

I wonder if the gaming device needs to download updated software, as time goes by. Like a pc....it eventually won't work right w/o downloading updates.

2. I'm sure there is...

...but, even the internet ones can be used without internet with some games. Or, go on ebay and find an older one. You just have to make sure there won't be a connectivity issue with a newer tv.

Yes, she loves games.

I could get her a pc and then buy games for it, but computers need to download updates, or eventually they won't work right. (And even cheap laptops are pricey.)

OTOH, maybe I could locate an old laptop and get it for not much $, so when it stops working correctly, it won't matter that much.

7. Hand coordination issue. And that won't use the brain as much....

I get her crossword books. And she has a couple of games she can use on her Kindle that I got her last year.

But I still have a couple of real decks of cards! I had totally forgotten until you mentioned it.

I went "everywhere" trying to find a battery-powered Solitaire game. No luck, but Radio Shack had Tetris and another one with multiple games on it.

Best advice, try eBay.

8. Ahhhh, so you know the problem. You give me an idea....

there are a couple of entertainment-media places (like Gamestop) that will carry used VHS, DVD movies and games, and a few used gaming devices. That's a possibility.

But if I could get her a new one that works w/o the internet, then I'd know it'd work. She wouldn't be able to return it.
