I'm tackling it right now and will be so happy when it's done.

Nyet, comrade! Bring out your tree!
SO can strip a tree in 20 minutes...and have it waiting for me to carry out to the curb before I finish the morning cup of coffee.
I think she didn't much like celebrating the season of Fiscal Cliffmas.
Ours was the first in the neighborhood to be laid out on the curb this year...

I strip the ornaments, my man does the lights and drags it outside to the woods near the bird feeders to decompose.
Then I'm stuck with vacuuming up all the needles which I continuously come across for weeks.

(36,063 posts)I appreciate the pollution issues, but I do miss the spectacle and tug of ancient drives that came with the bonfire made possible by the torching of 10,000 trees that was a part of my childhood.

(24,931 posts)My brother always saves his for bonfires though. There's nothing like cracking/exploding pine needles in a fire.

(5,909 posts)In the past after a few days of being up the slightest touch brought down a ton of needles.

My brother stopped yesterday and was watching us cram ours back in the box. He said he bought a nice bag that has extension zippers in case he needs length and it works well. We can get ours back in with squishing and taping the box but it is a hassle. Good Luck

(108 posts)And the more stuff you put up--the more you have to take down. We have an artificial tree, pre lit, in 3 pieces which isn't too bad after we squish and squish to get it back in the box. However our struggle is that it's heavy. We store it in the attic that has a pull down ladder. I seriously want one of those versa lifts to get this stuff back to the attic. One of these days I suppose.
We were going to go with a couple small trees this year (3-4ft) and leave the big one down due to the beloved labrador thinking it's indoor plumbing. My daughter was kind of disappointed so we put it up the Friday before Xmas and low and behold this past Friday the dear sweet 8yr old lab must have thought that was enough and heisted his leg ruining yet another tree skirt. (he thankfully misses the tree)
I hate to be crabby about Christmas, but I think next year it may be one small tree on a table.

(5,909 posts)I won't even go up there because the last few times I did I was home alone and almost couldn't make it down.
Mr. needs to use his Home Depot gift card and fix it---it's deadly.
I kind of feel the same way about the tree (I wasn't in the spirit this year) but have to do it for the kids--and the cats.

(28,394 posts)And I'm glad it's done. We got a small artificial tree this year. Much less work!
I bought a pine-scented wall thing to emit the essence of fake tree aroma. LOL
I am also Orthodox, so I'll leave up some of the decorations until next weekend. Vesele Vianoce.

Unless you wait for the summer solstice like I do.
I can't understand anyone who takes their tree down the day after xmas. At least wait until after New Year's so you can burn it in the fireplace the day after.
