The boss decided we'd stay open today. The phone rang twice. I know what his reasoning is. He doesn't want to pay me for taking a day off. So, he's paying me to sit at my desk, stalk DU and use up electricity and heat.
I'm soooooooooooooooo BORED! 2 hours left! I found/ordered stuff from Amazon with the giftcards I got. FB is boring. I've read all I can read about what's going on in the real world. I even did some much needed research on some games.
I guess I can use this opportunity to wish you all the very best. Some of you have had some rough times in '12. My wish goes out to all of you first.

(8,492 posts)Thank you! The third one, at the beginning, reminded me of 'Something Wicked This Way Comes'.
Happy New Year, ITW!!!

(29,414 posts)(it deleted our main drive with all of our drawings on it.) So, for the rest of that day, and the first half of the following day, none of us could even turn our computers on. Thankfully, I had my Kindle and my Cowon, so I could read and listen to music.
I got a lot of reading done
You could always go to the Project Gutenberg site and read some classics while you wait. Also, go to the Internet Archive for music and movies

(8,492 posts)I never knew such a site existed! I'm not exaggerating when I say it brought tears to my eyes. Our local library is awful. I love reading 'classics', but it's so difficult to find something that won't annoy me (like Hemingway) without actually buying the book first. So many titles!!! International titles!
Thank you!!!

(29,414 posts)There are quite a few archives out there for all kinds of genres. Someone in the Science Fiction forum posted a link sometime back for the Baen archive of Science Fiction. On either that site or another (this is the other site: Free Speculative Fiction Online) I downloaded all of the A.E. van Vogt titles when I went there
Happy New Year, eh!

(19,374 posts)You should be cleaning out the coal scuttle, filling up all the ink pots, and polishing the spitoons!
But seeing as how you're wasting the day here on DU, Happy New Year my friend!
Funny you should mention it...the boss left just after 3...and turned the heat off for the 'holiday'.
I'm sitting here with my damned coat on watching the temp on the thermostat plummet.
Happy New Year to you! Any NY gigs?
bluesbassman
(19,374 posts)No, no gig tonight. My guitar player has been ill for a while so we're kind of laying low. At this point I'm more concerned about him than playing out. Keep your fingers crossed for him.
Wait Wut
(8,492 posts)It sounds like something serious. My constant state of denial tells me that he'll be back sooner than you think.

(19,374 posts)He's a great guy besides being a talented guitarist.
