2012 was a good year.

2012 was a good year. I got a small promotion at work into a position I have wanted for ten years. I had spinal fusion surgery at the L4-L5 and bounced back like a madman. I was back at work in three weeks. Recovery has been great, being pain free is better. I paid off some debts. I lost 100K on my house in the Great Recession and have been steadily climbing out of debt. It will be smaller in 2013.

Best of all, I saw President Obama re-elected!

I have big hopes for 2013. My family emigrated from Torino 60 years ago, so I grew up with 13 as a lucky number!

1. It was a rough year for me and my wife in some respects

I wouldn't want to relive last year. My wife lost a cousin last year, we lost one of our cats too soon, my wife's father got fired from his job for no good reason, and, the worst of all for both of us, my wife had a miscarriage.

We've had some good stuff happen to us as well. I'm back in school now and getting 'A's and I got a big bonus and a big raise at work. But let me tell you, I'd trade that stuff for all of the bad stuff that happened. I would have much rather had a ho-hum year.

But we're still here and we're wiser now and doing good. I'm still optimistic about life in general.
