Sweet merciful Jesus, Downtown Abbey is a boring show!

Ten minutes in and I'm ready to blow my brains out. How did this anemic rip off of Upstairs, Downstairs ever get to be so popular? Leadfooted characterization, scene changes every 90 seconds, and not even Maggie Smith can save this travesty. If this travesty runs all the way to WW2 I'm sure I'll be rooting for the Nazis.

You kilometrage may veddy, old sport.

I did not watch the first two seasons, but kind of caught up with it while it was on hiatus. I watched some of the "re-cap" type shows. I was really looking forward to getting immersed in all things Downton. I really enjoyed the show that preceded it, about Highclere Castle!

I could not get interested in it at all. Dullsville, IMO. But I recorded it, so I'll try again.

I ended it it with Downton Abbey. All for my daughter and wife.

Sigh. I totally missed the NFL playoffs yesterday.

9. I think it's one of those aspirational shows, like Dynasty or Family Feud

Some people can watch it and enjoy the fantasy of living the good life. For myself, I just don't get into the sheer self-involved endurance required of being an upper class English twit. There's absolutely nothing wrong with enjoying a good soap opera, of course. As a kid I used to watch Hill Street Blues. So if you like it, love it. I'm just saying I prefer a show about doing instead of a show about being.

But not because it's boring. But because I loathe those kind of upper class twits. People who apparently do nothing all day besides scheme. I even loathe the servants, which normally is where my sympathies would lie, but they're worse than the others. I only made it through the first three episodes before I wanted to gather outside that house with a mob.

I was interested. But then just last night (or was it the night before?) I heard the author interviewed on NPR and subsequently lost all interest. Sounded borrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrrring. Even when they would play a clip to illustrate the awesomeness all I heard was the tedium.

If I want twits I'll watch Monty Python. They hold a yearly contest! The same guy always wins though. Still a better twit story than Downton Abbey.
