http://www.ubu.com/sound/komar.html"The most unwanted music is over 25 minutes long, veers wildly between loud and quiet sections, between fast and slow tempos, and features timbres of extremely high and low pitch, with each dichotomy presented in abrupt transition. The most unwanted orchestra was determined to be large, and features the accordion and bagpipe (which tie at 13% as the most unwanted instrument), banjo, flute, tuba, harp, organ, synthesizer (the only instrument that appears in both the most wanted and most unwanted ensembles). An operatic soprano raps and sings atonal music, advertising jingles, political slogans, and "elevator" music, and a children's choir sings jingles and holiday songs. The most unwanted subjects for lyrics are cowboys and holidays, and the most unwanted listening circumstances are involuntary exposure to commericals and elevator music. Therefore, it can be shown that if there is no covariancesomeone who dislikes bagpipes is as likely to hate elevator music as someone who despises the organ, for examplefewer than 200 individuals of the world's total population would enjoy this piece."

(20,776 posts)I came across something like it years ago, and though while most people couldn't stand to listen to it for more than a moment, i found it interesting and a bit funny..
Than again, a lot of people hated Yoko Ono's singing, and though I understood it, it was merely just performance art. I guess one has to look at it like one looks at a bizarre painting or weird movie. One persons art is another person's trash, and visa versa. I don't really mind weird music so much. I was never a fan of Opera, but I do like some of the traditional music of Japanese noh.
maybe cause I was exposed to it as a young age.

(60,016 posts)hence we get kids singing, holiday words, accordions, soprano rapping opera singers - it really has no equal!
And I do tend to like it better than the one they constructed with the elements the survey indicated people love! (then again, my own music collection is really eclectic/all over the place!)

(6,261 posts)I can't play audio or video at the moment, but this sounds awfully familiar. I think PRI's This American Life did a show about this years ago. By combining everybody's favourite elements of a song (female singer, singing about love, etc), they created a completely forgettable bit of fluff, but by combining everyone's least favourite elements (children's vocals, lyrics about Holidays, accordions & bagpipes), they created a song that virtually everyone preferred over the first one.
"Yom Kippur, Yom Kippur,... I'll meet you on Yom Kippur"... I thought it was hilarious.

(3,818 posts)I didn't like the popular one. Sounds too much like pop music I don't care for on the radio. The worst one though, is at least interesting to listen to, because you don't hear combinations of sounds like this. Actually, I kind of like parts of it -- for the humor!
