I'm going to take a history class!

I got the Intro to Paralegal Studies class I need, but I can't take any more of those until I complete it. I've taken all my general ed classes except a science course, and the ones that interest me are all full, so I've run out of classes I can take right now. I haven't taken a history class since high school 35 years ago. I can't wait!

I don't have to, but I don't want to take just that one paralegal course. That's my excuse and I'm sticking to it.

I still remember my high school history teacher. He was great. And there was this tall red-headed kid in the class who would bring in his colored chalks and draw a mural on the blackboard in the back of the room about the chapter we were studying. The assistant principal used to stop in every once in a while to check out his latest creation. You should have seen the ones he drew about Teddy Roosevelt!

All his classes were always full and they were hard! He would fill the blackboard with quotes and info, and then drill it into your head while you feverishly copied it all down. Quizzes twice a week. He taught American Revolution, Civil War (two semesters) and WW I & II. The kids all loved him. (He was also a family friend who was married and gay, who swore like a trooper and was funny as hell. Oh, the stories. )

She knew EVERYTHING (I did stump her by asking what the people responsible for
"Gothic" architecture actually called it -- "Gothic" was a label applied by subsequent
architects).

Have you read "Pillars of the Earth" by Ken Follett? Fascinating historical novel and
extremely well-researched -- the sequel (which I expected to disappoint me) was
also phenomenal ("World Without End&quot .

I love stuff like that. Have you read Follett's new one "Fall of Giants?" You'll like that one too.

What was WWII called before it became the norm to refer to that conflict as WWII?

I remember seeing the term in print from publications sold in 1939.
