I'm somewhat surprised the Hugh Jackman got nominated for Best Actor for Les Miserables. He was good, but not great.
Nice to see that Christoph Waltz and Tommy Lee Jones got nominated for Best Supporting Actor. I'd be very happy with either of them winning.
Ben Affleck got snubbed out of Best Director for Argo.

(56,828 posts)Life of Pi got a ton of nominations, but the reviews I saw were really mixed on it. Same with Les Miz. Even Lincoln wasn't universally positive.
charlie and algernon
(13,447 posts)both are very well acted and both directors have a huge cult following. Lincoln can also be shown in high school history classrooms, which will keep it around for a while.

(24,226 posts)Life of Pi is a classic and one of the best movies I've ever seen.
That said I don't know if it will win.
Frank Cannon
(7,570 posts)It should at least get the Oscar for best cinematography, which was absolutely incredible either in 3d or 2d. Just breathtaking.

But the people doing the voting often seem to have not seen them either, so I'm in good shape.

(13,770 posts)IIRC, she'd beat Tatum O'Neal's record.
charlie and algernon
(13,447 posts)Wallis is the youngest and Emmanuelle Riva is the oldest at 85. So we have a 2 in 5 chance of history really being made with one of them winning.
