The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsSo, what are you doing on this fine Saturday?
Me, I've got to take my car into the muffler shop in about half an hour. Driving home the other night down our beautiful and famous Woodward Avenue, it went "bang" and all of the sudden something got really loud. Hope it's just exhaust pipe or muffler and NOT the catalytic converter.
And then, I get to play -- going to be sunny and near 60 here, a very atypical January day in Detroit. So, I'm going out riding, all of our snow has melted, roads and paths will be clear. Thank God, I've been on withdrawal since it iced up. A good 25 or 30 miles would be just the ticket.
Even have some new music for the ride to crank on the Bluetooth speakers. Rihanna, Phillip Phillips (yes, the American Idol guy, but he's pretty good), a new Linkin Park, and an old but new to me Janet Jackson.
So, the weird bipolarish dude is planning a fine Saturday. Then a good dinner, picked up a couple of lobster tails and salad ingredients last night on the way home. Going to split and broil the lobster tails with a crabmeat filling. Maybe make some kind of a quinoa dish as a side, something along the lines of risotto, although I might have to cheat and add just a dash of actual cream to it to mimic the creamy starchiness of arborio. Yum.
Living well is, they say, the best revenge.

(6,581 posts)I put a cut up turkey carcass covered in water, set on high, later fell asleep. So, it cooked from about 6 pm to 3:30 am when I got up. I was afraid I had burnt it up, but there was about 1/3 of the stock left, meat fell off the bones, and I made great turkey soup.

(72,300 posts)I turn it down to keep warm for overnight cooking.
We lived on chili (chicken, beef or vegetarian style) last winter.
This winter most of our meals go over pasta since I learned about high levels of arsenic in brown rice.
Your soup sounds yummy.

Two hours of craziness. You never know what kind of costumes and music it will be.
Although I don't think anything will ever beat a bellydance with sock puppets to Ray Wylie Hubbard's Snake Farm.

(2,963 posts)on his cell. Very annoying to me, but he loves it. We were at a Ronnie Dunn concert last year and they played it in the warmup. He had to have it after that. Strange song.

(1,353 posts)to play music with my ex-boyfriend and his wife, so I will use the relative quiet to get some watercolouring done. And I'll clean the cat pans, wash some dishes. Tomorrow I have no plans. I guess we're supposed to get snow/ice tonight, after a couple of pretty warm days.

(20,219 posts)Then, she shall fly to Russia to conduct the Moscow Symphony Orchestra. After that she will lead rounds at Mt. Sinai Hospital in NYC (she's a doctor, ya know. Podiatrist and Professional Nasal Hygienist). Then she will rest up to prepare for her World Championship Ninja Yoga Black Belt tournament in Tahiti--she's a 32nd degree black belt, ya know.
Later, she wil be working on a new project with Quentin Tarrantino, after a quick stop to an advisory meeting with Elizabeth Warren.
I am her assistant and chief tummy tickler.

My agenda (ha!)includes meals, reading the paper, drinking my coffee, shower and dress much later...
Oh, and we'll be going out for lunch.
Probably a nap!
Your day sounds terrific. Enjoy your ride!

(4,056 posts)It's only gonna get to the low 50s, but it's cold, clear and no wind, so I plan to cycle as well. I'll probably take the long way to downtown, and I'm thinking of taking in a movie (wanna but don't wanna see Zero Dark 30.) This is one of the weekends where I don't have to go look after my elderly Dad (he lives in Sonoma, the wine country, and he's a hoot so no hardship there!) so I want to be outside doing something physical. I LOVE being free and living life on my own terms, it makes me a much happier person.
Whatever y'all do this weekend, hope it's a good one. And California Peggy, you take it easy, Darlin'. We all want to see you well again.
