I love that there are no street lights of any kind outside town limits, even on highways. It keeps more stars visible.

The growth of the small city to the south leaves a glow, and impacts the night sky a little, but so far we've still got something which would probably be a "2" on that scale.

We live in a semi-rural exurb of the city; the last in our county. We love our night skies!

And we can see #1 if we drive a bit out of town.

I love our night sky view - and I talk about it with the kids frequently.

Thanks for posting!

I make sure when I travel to stay in places where the sky is a 3 or 1. Last trip I was on the north shore of Kauai and it was pure Milky Way at night! Incredible. Next trip will be staying about 10 minutes outside of Santa Fe, NM, and there will be a small telescope at my disposal.

The night sky is amazing. I still remember seeing the Milky Way for the first time. I remember seeing the Aurora Borealis as a child.

But, to me, there is nothing quite like the Chicago skyline at night. Especially if you're lucky enough to see it from the lake. Different strokes and stuff.
