I buy this same shoe every year or so, they are my go-to shoes. I bought my last pair from an Amazon seller. The first day I wore them they developed a squeak. They squeak with every step. These are good shoes from a well known manufacturer, they should not squeak.
I went through the routine on Amazon to return them and gave my reason for returning them, explaining that they squeaked the first time I wore them. Now, the seller says my return doesn't meet the requirements for a refund because they have been worn.
The shoes are defective, I wouldn't have known about the squeak if I hadn't worn them. OK, this is the really irritating part, they ended this email with "Please Advise".
What advice should I give these buttheads?

(12,272 posts)usually Amazon would prefer we worked it out with sellers first. I just want to word that one email so that they feel like the buttheads they truly are.

(12,272 posts)I am just disgusted with a company that sells defective shoes, OKs a refund based on that and then says that the item doesn't fit the requirement. And seriously, "Please advise"???? Who the hell do they think they are?
Maybe I should respond with "The eagle has landed, proceed as planned" you know?

(24,262 posts)walk. That is a typical manufacturing defect. If I knew exactly what the shoes look like I could give you a more definitive reason for the squeak which may assist you in getting the retailer to take them back. It would also help your cause if you have to contact with the manufacturer.

(12,272 posts)This is my old pair and yes they are a little goofy, but so comfortable for casual wear.

(24,262 posts)to flex and rub against either/or the outer sole and mid-sole creating the squeaking sound. Another possibility is that the insole isn't fitted properly and is rubbing against the interior counter or the mid-sole. You could probably confirm the origin of the problem by having a cobbler check them out. If it were me, I'd contact the manufacturer directly.

(12,272 posts)If the seller fails to right the situation, I will go through Amazon. Depending on how the seller responds to my "Advisory" email, I may contact Merrell.

(6,011 posts)Amazon review#2-
I have worn Merrell's for years and always find them very comfortable. These shoes are also extremely comfortable. The problem was that the shoes squeeked and it was very annoying. I wrote to Merrell and was told to put powder under the insert. I did and the squeek is gone. I have put baby powder in every few weeks for 3x and I am loving these shoes. Fit is perfect and I can wear them all day long without my feet hurting.
Review #1 compared two similar styles Merrell's clogs, and mentioned that your style I believe (Encore Groove Pro) had a squeaky shoe.

(12,272 posts)If I had read the reviews, I probably wouldn't have ordered the shoes. I have worn this style of shoe from Merrell for years and just ordered it when I found it at Amazon. I have ordered these shoes from Amazon in the past with no problem. The squeak is within the molded heel, talc would not have helped.
The good news is that the company is going to give me a refund, the bad news is that I am going to have to go to a brick & mortar to find a pair that doesn't squeak. C'est la vie.
