I know we have some pit bull lovers here

My friend Rose has devoted her life to animals. She's worked as a zookeeper at Disney Animal Kingdom for over 20 years. AS you can imagine it's one of those jobs that you do more for love than money. She got involved with a pit bull rescue group a few years back. They had a sweet blue/white female pit, just 5 months old, with a crushed front leg. The leg had to be amputated, but the puppy, Shelby, was a trooper. Unfortunately it's hard enough to get people to adopt pit bulls, and Shelby went weeks without being adopted. Even though Rose couldn't really afford to care for another dog, it was too late. She had fallen in love with the little 3 paw and decided to give her a forever home. She renamed her Shila.

Here's Shila in her swimsuit. Yes, even though she only has 1 front leg, she still loves to swim!

Here's a little slideshow of her story:

Well, one little problem. Even though she's lean, her weight is just too much for her remaining front leg. It has started to bow and she injured her shoulder. Her vet said it would be best if she got some "wheels" - a custom cart specially fitted for her height, weight and gait. The only problem is it's $650! Rose has started a Chip In account because if she can get a little help to pay for the cart, she can get Shila rollin' that much quicker. Here's her Chip In account:

If you could contribute a few bucks, that would be great!

Thanks!

I wish I could, but finances are short right now. I love pit bulls. I have owned two of them and two Rottweilers. They are all now in doggie heaven.

Detroit Dog Rescue is one of my favorites. My sweetie is a volunteer for 11th Hour in our area, and she is going to foster pitties as they become available having owned two in the past decade.

I can't believe that is even a battle. Between my diabetic dog, my dog that eats things that requires intestinal surgery, and my dog that had open-bladder surgery for stones last month, I should have a wing at my local vet hospital named after me.

Please keep us updated

Actually I just checked and the fund is almost halfway there so she should be able to place the order so they can get to work on the cart. I found out something kind of cool. The owner of the company, Eddie, is an engineer who built the first cart for his own dog. He now employs 16 people. The carts are all made here in the USA!

Sorry you have so many vet bills for your fur babies. I've been really fortunate. My first cat lived to be 22 and all I ever did was take her to the vet once a year for a check up and rabies shot.

We have cats and no fenced area, but I know how misunderstood pits are and I'd love to have one one day...

Kicking for Shila!

I've got a lot of pittie lovers on my page. Hopefully, that last $200 will come quickly. I might be able to kick in more later.

It sounds like you should make your goal, but if not, there are a couple of Facebook pages that might help:
