Wow, I thought my area was high -rent. My niece and nephew just rented a house in CT for 6K a month

They are in a 7K a month apt in Manhattan right now -- they want to get their kids out of the city to where there is space.

72,000 a year is a lot to pay in rent, IMHO.

Mark that, even in the gold coast areas 10 miles outside NYC, that's absurd for anything less than 5BR, 4BA, 4000'^2 on acres of land. They must have rented massive or gotten scammed.

I take it your niece and nephew are not merely wealthy but very wealthy.

I guess it's very close to Westport on the NY state line. My nephew will take a commuter train into Manhattan to work, he works near the former WTC site.

I saw a couple of photos of the house, ok but nothing spectacular for the $. They plan on renting a year before they buy something.

Yeah, he does alright. He works in cybersecurity for financial companies. She stays home with their kids.

Darien is a very well to do town in Fairfield county...one of the top earning towns in the US. Homes there can easily average over the 1 million mark. According to my friends in town $6000/month is not unusual, especially if you're close to the shoreline. Very, very republican leaning, excellent schools though

Seriously, I wonder if they know that. They will not be amused.

They just moved from London, job transfer. They're pretty liberal.

Mom and I lived in neighboring (and MUCH more liberal) Norwalk for many yeears. Mom would sometimes drive into Darien to shop at their (long gone) Grand Union supermarket.

Once she was accosted by a perky, preppy young thing who chirped, "Are you a Darien Republican?" She repiled, "No, I'm a Norwalk Democrat. Sorry."
