I'm tired of Chrome freezing and having problems with Flash, IE randomly kicking me off of websites. I stopped using Firefox, I don't remember why, but there were problems. I've heard Opera is a good alternative, but I'd be open to any suggestions.

(9,077 posts)I primarily use Firefox & Chromium (the Linux version of Chrome), but I also use Opera some. I used it frequently years ago with Windoze & it worked well. I've not had problems with Firefox & Chromium though, they're both very stable.

(29,414 posts)I've been using Opera for over a decade. I never had a problem figuring it out, either, unlike with FF. Just keep your tab-numbers down and it's stable enough

But seriously, what is considered a lot of tabs?

(29,414 posts)My version at home needs some "house cleaning" in that regard, because it will suck a lot of ram if you have too many open, even if none of them are refreshed to the page.
Here at work, I've got ten tabs open, and it's using 600 mb. I don't know why it needs that much, because in the past it didn't take as much ram. I continue to use it, though, because I'm used to it, and their security is just a hair better than FF

(11,916 posts)It's a non-supported browser here at work because it gets so small a market share on our Google Analytics report. I use it for my personal stuff so I can keep bookmarks/browser cache, etc. separate. I prefer it because of the slider bar for resizing text/pics on the fly etc. At home I mainly use FireFox but it's an absolute memory hog and it seems like it needs updating every few days. I hate IE, but keep it around for those sites that don't support anything but IE.

But I also use Linux, not Windows...could Windows be part of your problem???

(7,724 posts)Is Linux a possibility for someone who's not a computer person? I'm computer savvy, but only compared to a non-computer person.

(60,010 posts)Linux platforms come in cute names, like "koala" which is version # 11..
I think version 10 is considered to be easier to work with, according to Mr. Dixie who does all the puter stuff.
