One of the charms of minor league baseball is that you can run with the occasional zany idea. The San Jose Giants, for example, are having a bit of fun with the odd hoax surrounding Notre Dame football player Manti Te'o by hosting "Lennay Kekua Night."
The April 12 promotion at Municipal Stadium is named after Te'o's nonexistent girlfriend. You remember her, the Stanford grad who died of leukemia but turned to out have been an online fiction.
Fans who buy a ticket can bring their real or imaginary significant other to the game for free. And there'll be a meet-and-greet before the game so couples can introduce their boyfriend or girlfriend to their parents in person. Free tickets to a future game will be handed out to fans who dress like Manti Te'o and to all Stanford students.
Maybe they can play "She's Not There" and "Imaginary Lover" over the PA between innings.
