Housing company designs home to keep cats and their owners happy

http://japandailypress.com/housing-company-designs-home-to-keep-cats-and-their-owners-happy-2522215

Cats have had a surge in popularity lately, thanks to cute and funny pics scattered all over the Internet. But in Japan, where feline love is definitely nothing new, a construction company has created a home that caters not only to the human needs of cat owners but also to the desires of their furry pets as well.

The Japanese are no strangers to indulging cats. There are “cat cafes” in Japan where people who are unable to own pets for one reason or another can come and play with some felines for a few hours, for a price. And there are even “pornography” made just for cats (no, it’s not what you’re thinking). Now, housing company Asahi Kasei has taken the results of their research to create this abode for cats and owners alike. The house has animal friendly features built especially to meet the needs and interests of cats, such as open air cat walks, platforms to jump from, tunnels to explore, and a special spot in the bathroom for a litter box. Of course, human owners are not left out as the builders used materials that are resistant to cats’ incessant scratching and are easy to clean. The house also features fences that ensure cats will not be able to escape. But what cat would try to leave from all the comfort and special treatment anyway?

It is still somewhat a mystery why humans are so attracted to felines, considering how they are not always the most loyal or endearing of pets at times. Perhaps it is best left as one of the unsolved mysteries of the universe. But for those in Japan who have already fallen prey to the feline allure, this might be a house worth considering for a next investment.

I used to have an apartment where the kitchen cabinets didn't go all the way to the ceiling. My cats loved to jump from the top of the refrigerator to the top of the cabinets.

She's been gone for years, but I still check the tops of doors before closing them.

I don't have talent to do all that.

I stacked 3 large see through tupperware style bins and cut holes out (badly) in the long side of them (alternating the entry) and put cat beds in each with the top bin having a hole cut out in the so they can get to the top which is covered with a rug.

I can't imagine how hard it is to keep that house clean with 9 cats and all those knick-knacks.
