So, a little over a month ago, I bought a printer. I decided that for once in my adult life, I wanted something other than an HP printer. I researched and decided on an Epson. I found an excellent price and I snapped it up. It has been sitting on my desk, taking up valuable real estate and mocking me for a little over a month. Setting up an HP usually requires a PhD in something I don't have and whine, er wine, lots of wine.
Tonight, knowing I have some forms I HAVE to print, I poured myself some wine and started the process. The first attempt failed but then, strangely, the wizard suggested I print an explanation for the failure. I did and the problem was explained in simple, straightforward English. Every thing about setting this printer up was easy and did I mention, straightforward?
Of course, I'm still waiting for the gotcha. After all, I did mention that I've only ever had HP printers, right*?
*YMMV, valid only in these continental United States, not to be construed as a diss on HP printers, yadda, yadda.
If you read this far, you are either an idiot or drinking wine. Like me.
PS It works, it works, it works!

(41,694 posts)I don't need a this, that, or the other update manager, an online photo whatever, etc.
Used to be the driver disk only had the actual driver on it.
I have an Epson Workforce 1100 large format printer, an Epson NX420 all in one, an HP laserjet 1018 and a Samsung CLP680 color laser for different printing needs.
It takes 5 minutes to install the driver and 15 minutes to get rid of the "extras" when you set it up.

Sorry, butt I couldn't resist.
Congrats on getting the printer!

(34,136 posts)But it does tend to clog the heads more than the HP printers I have owned. HP ink cartridges generally include new heads, Epsons do not. And if you have one of the Epsons that use the Claria ink, watch out for using third party cartridges - that ink is highly 'engineered' and the printers don't like off brands.
For years all I bought were HP printers, but at the time I bought the Epson, their photo printing technology was superior to HP's. And this printer not only prints photos, it can print directly to printable CDs and DVDs, something I used a lot for a while. Now it's hard to find the printable discs.
What model Epson did you get?

(35,442 posts)Buying new cartridges was killing me. I try not to print anything, and if I really do need to print something, I do it at work or I go to a Kinkos.
In the past year, I've printed less than 50 pages, so I made a wise choice.
