1. I have a cousin who has a 3 year relationship because of a dating website.

She went on the site and a few days later they met and have been together since. I have friends who have told me it is not really worth it. I guess it is the luck of the draw. I prefer to go to a bar to meet people, but that is just me.

We've been together for over 2 years now. I know of which you speak, though. When I first saw my wife in person it was refreshing to see that she looked like what she did in her pics in her profile. Then to find out she was exactly as she'd been in our conversations over the internet and phone, it was almost too good to be true. But it was true and we clicked.

To be successful on dating sites you have to be honest if you are really looking for something long term- honest about who you are and honest about your appearance. If you aren't, you will always fail.

Unfortunately, we get drowned out by all of the yahoos who are just looking to get laid. Have you gone out looking around on the site or do you just wait for the guys to come to you? I know a lot of women just wait for the guys to come to them. I think you increase your chances of finding someone compatible if you actively search and initiate contact, as well.

And you're right, I have made some lasting friendships via a dating site, but have met beaucoup yahoos also. And yes, b/c I'm SO shy I do instigate occasionally, but so far to no avail. One of my friends did find that the pics were WAY outdated. A guy with longish brown hair would be much older and have white hair, in person, etc.

BUT...she was persistent, and did in fact meet and marry someone. He was a reasonably attractive, good guy. Sadly, she then got a brain tumor and died w/in a year of getting married. And he was there for her at the end. Life is unfair.
