(10,440 posts)than just the town of Mt Shasta. The area is AMAZING. Lot of water falls (Burney and McCloud). Big Mojo there. BIG MOJO!
The lake is enormous. Some caverns etc. Lots of houseboats and ski boats.
The town of my Shasta is nice, great downtown, art shops etc.
The brewery is nice too in Weed.
The Sundial bridge in Redding is cool as hell (Sunset or sunrise for photos).
I love, and I mean LOVE the drive from mt Shasta to Lassen to Tahoe. amazing.

(441 posts)Shasta Lake is on the north end of Redding by the dam. Don't know a lot about it, but my guess would be mostly permanent residents.

(6,819 posts)land up there, and I've often wondered about moving up there -- but worry about the prison industry influence and a scarcity of Democrats.
Any thoughts?

(584 posts)There are two prisons up in Susanville, they don't seem to affect the Redding/Shasta region.
As for the scarcity of Dems, yea, it's bleak, very red country, but that makes me appreciate Democrats that much more.

(10,440 posts)The town of Mt Shasta is pretty arty farty so I am sure. Lots of cash cropists round that area too.... But then again I never saw anyone wearing a badge saying if they were librul or conservative there.

(11,700 posts)The drive on I-5 through the San Joaquin Valley sucks bad until you get to Redding. Then it's beautiful.
