This thread is over with. Please refer all future inquiries to my Megan Calvet Draper thread. We're agreeing to stay friends. She's a sweet girl. She's smarter than a cat-O-nine-tails on a wet buttcheek. But it's just too intense to drop a pound of flowers on someone two days before VD and expect it to be cleanly recieved. What subtle signal can I possibly send her to chill out without also saying "Scram, I don't wanna be friends"? I ain't that cold. Is there some secret code in the world of womanspeak that conveys the sentiment "I want to be in your rolodex, but not centerpiece of your life"?

(20,776 posts)Bucky Sensei, I heard there is a service that sends out dead and rotting flowers..I don't know the name of it..but its really out there. I should say I know, cause someone I know, got some.

(54,027 posts)I think my problem is guilt. After she impulsively called it off, she's now sending signals that I could win her back. I'm feeling a little like a bum for not pouncing on the implied offer. I'm just not demonstrative. But you're right, I should be grateful for the gesture, even if it is a little too much.
Side note: I thought you were in SF. What's the deal with the Oakland icon? Are transBay loyalities kosher?

(20,776 posts)There are two types of fans. 49ers and Raider fans. I used to be a 49er fan till the Owners, (The Yorks) said they would move the team down to Santa Clara and stated "There is better money in Santa Clara, and the Fans are Better.. its a great place to go." This was a snub on all the (City) San Francisco fans, in my opinion who supported and bought season Tickets. The Raiders were always my second favorite team. I didn't root for the 49ers in the Superbowl only because, according to the Yorks, they had Better Fans in Santa Clara. My dad had season tickets for years, and recently this past season I gave up those seats out of protest for the owners stupid, crass comments. (My dad goes to Giants and Jet games now.. He wasn't happy either over what the Yorks stated.)
I am exclusively a loyal Raiders fan now. I have liked them for years.. and loved the fans attitude. They are passionate and love their team win or lose. You have to respect fans who love their teams, even during the tough times.

(20,776 posts)The Cubs used to (still may) have their spring training in Scottsdale Arizona (I think, if not the Phoenix area.)and many times used to, after a game come into the Italian Restaurant that I worked for. It was called Petrini's. (The owners were from Chicago.) I waited on a few of the players, and they were all very nice. Some even signed autographs.. and the owner loved the Cubbies very much!
It was unfortunate that a year later, he retired and sold the Restaurant to a couple of brothers from New York, who were Extreme Yankee Fans. I am sure, it was shortly after, that the Cubs players stopped coming. The owner constantly wore a Yankees cap during baseball season, and had the typical loud and boisterous attitude about how no other team in the world existed. The Restaurant lost money big time... and I left Arizona before the place went broke. The food and the company was never the same after Mr. Petrini retired.

(54,027 posts)Don't DO that in the middle of February, Kimi! I'm hanging lower than an armadillo's butt and now you're just depressing me.

I suggest you look into that before you respond. FWIW.

(7,515 posts)My son would be able to sympathize with your situation. His girl friend broke up with him the night of his law school graduation and has spent the last 2 years trying to get him back. LOL. He's moved on.

(35,015 posts)I read through the thread and I'm sensing ambivalence....if you don't want her back as a gf and just want to see her every now and then as friends, then don't respond in any way to the flowers. She wants a reaction - positive or negative.
If you want her back, then let her know. But if she's the type to 'call it off' on a whim then change her mind, you probably should pass; you deserve better.
Bucky
(54,027 posts)I drew a real clear line. My ambivalence is all about guilt, not about regrets.
I may not deserve better--no one did anyone wrong here--but I do deserve different, and a maybe a little time off.
