Can someone briefly educate me on 1) how many there are and 2) how they correlate with the TV series.
I see there are 2 compendiums on Amazon. Are there more? Where does the end of the 2nd one go through to? Has the TV show gotten that far yet?
If not a 3rd, how many loose volumes are there aside from those 2?
Thanks

(29,047 posts)and I have read many of the comics.
I won't go into too much detail in order to avoid spoilers.
The series begins very similar to the comic, but changes about half way through the first season. Things start to get back on track when they go to the farm.
The comic is more brutal. The main characters are more disturbed, and the death rate is higher. The comic has a higher main character turn over rate, but Rick and his son are constants. Good and evil are more blurred in the comic.
Morality is a larger theme in the comic than the TV show.
Rick only has one hand in the comic. He begins with two hands, but looses one fairly quickly.
Guns are used more often in the TV show.
The show and comic have some different characters. For example, Daryl and his brother is not in the comic. The group in the comic often travels with more children.
Some of the relationships are different, for example, Michonne is trusted a lot quicker in the comic. She is less stubborn, and tells them what is going on. She's also a little bit crazy.
Some of the events go down differently, such as the conflict between Michonne and the Governor.
Hope that helps. I don't want to give too much away.

(17,742 posts)I was just wondering how far it goes, relative to the TV show. Although, since they don't really parallel, maybe it is moot.
Do they go to the prison in the books? Are they there by the end of the first compendium?

(29,047 posts)The comics are released in three different forms, at least. The regular, thin, floppy comic style; thicker, bound style, which is several comics, and then an even thicker, book style, which is a bunch of comics.
It's all the same stuff, just in different formats, I believe. I buy the medium style. I just got some money, perhaps I should go to my comic-book store and get some more. Hmmm....

(29,047 posts)Compendium One should take you slightly past the prison disaster, which is farther in the story than the TV show.
