The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI watched the movie Battleship tonight....
Got sucked in as I was dong my breathing treatments.
It's not an Oscar winning movie by far but it a cool premise about a off course alien patrol who need the communication sites in Hawaii to call for help.
That's all you need to know. The special effects are good, sometimes I think I am inside a video game instead of watching a TV these days, but to each generation it's own.
If you got some time to kill it's not a total waste.

(80,708 posts)look like the pieces from the game.
I mean, I got the feeling it was done with a bit of self-awareness, tongue in cheek. So that's cool.

(182 posts)WE sent a transmission to their 'Goldilocks' planet that we had discovered. The civilization then sent their military bad-asses to check us out and to take the first step of colonization. If they had been able to transmit back home that they arrived and the party had started our civilization would have been SOL.
I had to fast forward to the alien arrival...the beginning was hokey with poor acting. Still fun to see how others visualize aliens.

I don't think the production company is going to quote you in a blurb.

(2,100 posts)Knowing I would regret it. Special effects were cool and you know, sometimes that's all I need to make me happy. I liked how they finally kinda linked in to the Hasbro game a little bit by showing the alien ships leap-navigating a grid and having to predict where and when they'll land before sending their bombs off.

(53,410 posts)every one of the main characters are incredibly shallow and 2-dimensional, uninteresting and forgettable. The vaguely memorable ones are the sandy haired communications guy who said repeatedly that they were all going to die and the Black guy with the prosthetic legs. Character development was thrown out entirely in favor of special effects.
But I have a problem seeing why the alien ships had to hopscotch and leap frog on the surface of the water. Didn't they just fly through space and the earth's atmosphere? It seemed like a really fucked up way to navigate, take aim at our side and shoot weapons.
Their weapons were awesome though.

(45,558 posts)So I wasn't bothered by tedious backstory stuff, just a whole bunch of pretty good special effects.
