Ah, I love the smell of pretentiousness in the morning!

There's a new restaurant that opened up in the area called the Annapolis Smokehouse and Tavern. Here's their welcome message on their website:

The Annapolis Smokehouse & Tavern opened their doors in December 2012. Located in the popular shopping center of Bay Ridge Plaza, we aim to bring a new taste and style to the area. We tend to consider ourselves “American Cuisine” with a focus on fresh ingredients and tasty barbecue.

Our full service bar is one of a kind in the area. Maybe you’re looking for just a cold drink, maybe a craft beer, or maybe you want to share a bottle of wine with the table. We hand-pick all of our wines, frequently switch our drafts, and always stock a ton of craft beers to make sure you have a unique experience with every visit to the Annapolis Smokehouse & Tavern.

They sell frickin' pulled pork, BBQ ribs, chicken, and beef brisket. Essentially they dressed up a BBQ pit to cater to the local yuppies. My favorite part, though, is their menu where they saw fit to tell us where the Natty Bo, Miller Lite, Coors lite, and Bud lite were are all made.

Feast your eyes on the lovely pretentiousness! http://www.annapolissmokehouse.com/menu/

NOTE: I've never been there and the food is probably great, but damn, cut back on the hoity toity and embrace what you really are: a BBQ pit. Hell, there's a BBQ pit just 45 minutes north of this place that's literally in the parking lot of a strip club and has picnic tables inside. You get a pound of meat on your sandwhich and you only pay $7. THAT'S a BBQ pit.

I prefer the simple message of the Casino Bar in LaCrosse, Wisconsin: "Good food, lousy service." Scuba Feb 2013 #1

afterall, there's a rib place right down the street that's been there for years and there's a Famous Dave's less than 10 minutes away.

I sense quite a bit of denial there. A BBQ place that's terrified of being known as a BBQ place.

They're upscale. That's okay. I love a pit (hell, I know some drive-through tamale places in Mississippi that'll make you renounce your God!) but they sound pretty damn good to me.
