Personally, I'd leave off the "keep me informed part" since I would already know more than I wanted.

but that was 10+years ago. You rarely make that decision without a lot of thought, maybe even years of it, alone with a lot of prep work in getting approval from an insurance company. Often you see a psychiatrist, dietitian, attend pre surgery classes, maybe even a documented by some type of authority weight loss program, that was over a years work for me. I made arraignments (I was single then) for post surgery company, someone to walk and feed the dogs for several weeks, someone to take care of the dogs just in case things went badly...it can be a big deal.
In short, if you're close, ask what kind of sugar free popsicles you can bring over the second week they are home.

the insurance approval process. She will be on a special diet for six months (just to measure her resolve) and then have it this summer. Good idea on the popsicles

to anyone of your friends having any kind of surgery at all?

With kindness, I would hope. Kindness and support.

It's not an easy decision at all. I researched for over 3 years.

As was said earlier, "I'm sure this was not an easy decision to make, and I wish you good health. What can I do to support you or help out?"

I'd also suggest that if this person is an important part of your life that maybe you'll want to do some reading about the procedure and what she can expect after it is done. Bless you for being such a caring friend that you even asked this question!
