And coke came later, at least in my Mill Valley, Peacock feather, hot tub swillin existance. Coke was kindof an early 80's thing.

3. Uppers, downers, and acid were all plentiful.

I don't remember what we called the speeders or downers, except Speeders and Downers. The acid was Green Barrel or Windowpane. Peyote and magic mushrooms were rumored to exist, but we never saw them. Cocaine was unheard of in my rural area, as were meth, crank, and heroin.

We smoked a TON of weed.

.... that in the case of acid if you did not get off on the first dose, it was a dud (i.e. not really acid, underdosed, etc). Unlike pot, acid does not take multiple tries.

Pot, commercial (Mexican), Columbian (higher grade pot) Sensimilla or Skunk Weed (the highest grade pot of the 70's ) Magic mushrooms (psilocybin), Peyote, Acid, Cannabional (a suspossed synthetic THC - snorted) Also snorted was Crank, (a powered form of Meth) Hashish, Hash oil (Honey Oil was the super high grade hash oil), Cocain.

What was not known was crack, but free base (smokeable cocain using ether as a solvent to remove the "cut" before smoking, was just around the corner. Also, so-called designer drugs like ecstacy were not even conceived of back then.

Pills, Seconal (Reds) Lilly F-40's (high dosage seconal, also known as "colows" in Los Angeles), Valium, Darvon/Darvoset, Quaaludes, Whites (benzedrine) and of course everybodies favorite; Boone's Farm's Strawberry Hill.

I was supremely unpopular because I was the one who didn't smoke and just watched everyone get stupid as the joint would get passed around. It wasn't because I was virtuous, just extremely pyrophobic and scared of falling embers.

54. Angle Dust was most certainly available in the Los Angeles in '74

It was know as both "angle dust", and "elephant tranquilizer", and was reputed to be embalming fluid. It was smoked in joints that were nearly as thin as a empty, tightly rolled zig zag.

The original medium was mint leaves, then later spearmint. The first time I came across it was from some buddies from East Los Angeles when I was 15 or 16 which was in '73 or '74. The formulation and effects changed by the time it became wide spread around 1976.

I was smoking pot. (Still do and always will) that was the year of the Columbian red and Santa Marta Gold as well as OAXACA. CA grown Sinsemilla production was in it's infancy then so we never got that. Also a lot of Thai Sticks and Blonde Hash as well as the occasional napealese temple ball.

74 was the Year of Orange Sunshine. Tons of Dead shows, tons of music and tons of Orange Sunshine.

Beans were also the thing then, 10 for a dollar...... Speed, amphetamines and sometimes Pink hearts or Dexedrine too.

I was only 19 so I di not drink too much alcohol and enver got into heroin. I did one time take reds and that was so bad I never took another downer after that. Lots of people did though. Diluad, Angel Dust, reds, yellow, thorzine etc were also prevalent among the harder biker types. Most of them drifted into heroin at some point.

We all brought in all the pills we had and put them in a bowl in someone's locker. Before we went to work we would reach in and take one, and go to work. It was amazing the things that happened after that.

PCP was also popular. A lot of people smoked weed, but it was more of a commodity than a cool drug.
