Aogashima (青ヶ島?) is a volcanic Japanese island in the Philippine Sea, administered by Tokyo and located approximately 358 kilometres (222 mi) south of Tokyo and 64 kilometres (40 mi) south of Hachijō-jima. It is the southernmost and most isolated inhabited island of the Izu archipelago.

The village of Aogashima administers the island under Hachijō Subprefecture of Tokyo Metropolis. As of 2009, the island's population was 205. Aogashima is also within the boundaries of the Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park.

Looks like a few people live on it too......I see houses scattered on the other side, near the top on the right.

If you find out where it is, please post it, OK? I'd love to see the whole place.

...leading off the edge. Why? Although, if I was forced to live on a remote island I'd probably find myself driving down, and off, that road.

Yes, it is gorgeous, but I'm a city girl and would go batshit in 72 hours.

When my dad was in the Air Force in the 1950s he landed in the Azores and he said he flew over a new island coming out of the waters of the Atlantic.

You couldn't get there by plane - well, maybe parachute - but how would you get off?

If you land by boat, it looks like you have to some mountaineering skills.
