Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsQuestion: Could we have a MMOG Topic formed?
I happen to do MMOGs and wondered if we might ask, or how do we ask for a new topic to be included.
I do mainly EvE online, myself.
But the MMOG Topic would be for all MMOGs.
Thanks!

(4,138 posts)Have you taken a look at some other webforums that have large gamer populations, like quartertothree or Something Awful? You'd probably get a lot more discussion activity there (and I know that SA has been pretty involved in EVE politics, so I would imagine that there's a lot of interesting talk for EVE players there).
I always liked the concept of EVE, but it has a reputation as a huge timesink, and it always struck me as the kind of game where it is more interesting to read other people's distillation of the really memorable parts of hundreds of hours of gameplay, than to actually play out those hours myself.

(6,234 posts)But it's not for everyone. There's a joke in the game:
Internet Spaceships are SERIOUS BUSINESS!
It happens to be true. Everything in Eve is serious business. Nothing is casual or relaxed. Everyone is out to destroy you. It might as well be called sociopaths online. And when you consider that people PvP in imaginary spaceships that can cost hundreds of real dollars each, and major fleet battles might have many hundreds of people on each side, it's easy to see just how serious things can get.
But because it's so serious, people rarely just screw around. They plot and plan and look for weeknesses to exploit. Every battle is a trap, it might be yours, it could be theirs, or possibly it is both. There is no other game I have played in which, even after years of doing it, it still scares the hell out of you. The best pilots in the game say the same thing. That's why they play.
I was a Pirate, primarily hunting faction warfare space, dodging fleets, and generally messing about. I used small, agile, and fast ships. As a new player you could train to fly ships like this in a couple months time. That's a long time if you are used to other games, but for Eve that's pretty quick.

(10,175 posts)Hell there was a Player Run Bank that was embezzled with almost 50k of real money stolen.
What other game can have that happen?
I've seen tens of thousands of dollars won and lost. I agree, it's a very serious game.
