I hung with them, played the right music, was in the right bands, but never was a hippie, myself.

I caught all sorts of grief for it, too. My hair wasn't long enough, I didn't smoke anything, didn't wear the right clothes. And then I got blamed for not being "non-conformist" enough. A bunch of kids my age or a little older, who all looked the same and dressed the same were telling ME I wasn't non-conformist enough. Well, I'm still not, after all these years. The others are all either dead or insurance executives who, you guessed it, all look the same and dress the same. I'm still doing my "none of the above" thing, and have no regrets.

My best friend and I took turns picking the spot in NYC to go drinking on Friday night.
I usually suggested The Village. But Joanie liked the upper east side.
We were at Maxie when Donald invited us to Les Club.
We danced the night away. He was a perfect gentleman the entire night. He drove us home. Dropping Joanie off at her apartment near Brooklyn College. Then he drove me to Sheepshead Bay (my home). As he walked me to my door that night he ask me out to a hockey game the next night.
I hate violence. Perhaps I should have suggested a play or the opera.
Then I wouldn't have stood him up the next night. How could I be so rude.

It's more that she wouldn't shut up. Now if I could talk to her, I'd say, "A fine mess you've gotten us into." But then, this has not been the best week for either of us.

Mar 2013

It is still saying this to me. In 1980, I was living in Madison, Wisconsin. I was unemployed and broke. There were no career prospects either. I could go to graduate school, but wasn't committed enough. My parents had moved to Texas and I could move there and go to nursing school. (Nursing school at UW-Madison wasn't going to work out for me either)

I could have stayed in Madison and lived on unemployment and odd jobs indefinitely, but I came to Texas.

I still grapple with this on an almost daily basis!!! I'm still plagued with guilt.
