(54,437 posts)Like a weekend in Kansas City, or something?
Not that there's necessarily a bunch of fascinating distractions to occupy your attention in Kansas City, but if you've never met up, that might be exactly the sort of place you'd want for your first meeting.

(2,173 posts)I'm convinced that had a lot to do with why we are so close. She had a male roommate and I had two different female roommates. We trusted each other and still do.
One of my daughters just had her long-distance boyfriend up for a visit a few weeks ago. They've been in touch for two and a half years. But I do agree with an earlier post - meet somewhere in the middle. Grab a pile of CDs, turn up the tunes, and just drive. My girl drove from PA to MiddleOfNowhere, IL while I was on a business trip. She just showed up at my hotel.
It's worth a try. Besides, with maps.yahoo.com you can even get a drive-time estimate! That should make it pretty easy to bifurcate the trip so you arrive at about the same time.
GO FOR IT!!!!!!

(54,437 posts)And no one could just hop in a car, either. From Philadelphia to Münster/Westfalen, there was the matter of an Atlantic Ocean to cross. But it was worth it. We met 39 years ago in a cabaret in what was then West Berlin in a very different world.

(54,437 posts)And considering the temperature in Iceland during a few of the stopovers, I probably should have learned to ski.
I still don't have a jet ski (can you believe it?), but in the end, I still got the girl, and that's what counts.

(54,437 posts)The standard joke about movie plots was "boy meets girl, boy loses girl, boy gets girl back." When I met mine, I knew right then and there I didn't ever want to lose her (we were both 22), and since she was going for her degree in social work back home in Germany, and I hadn't yet been recruited by my outfit in the States, our financial situation didn't exactly lend itself to seeing each other on weekends.

(8,217 posts)I am in a similar situation with my female best friend.
It's hard, but a friend like that is not something I would like to lose.

(4 posts)My mistake. It's weird, because you have many things in common, but however.
I wish you and your beloved one long time of happiness! I truly hope you'll meet someday and live the rest of your lives together.
Good luck!
