How do I continue job search after taking temp position?

I just landed a temporary job after a lengthy search, but I still want to keep looking for a permanent position. How do I go about this discreetly? How do I take time to interview?

if you don't get another offer?

They might be understanding, since they hired you on a temporary basis. However, remember that you signed on as a temp for a specific period. (most cases). (I spent a 6 month contract as a temp ... and nailed the job after the contract ended)

If you get a nibble, let the nibblers know that you wouldn't be available until after M/D/YYYY.

Make phone calls on break time, let the call go to messaging when they call while you're working.

or at the end of the day. That way it's just a matter of coming in a little late or leaving a little early. Just tell them you have an appointment.

"I can't come for an interview during working hours, I wear jeans and a t-shirt to work, and I'm hairy all over. If I change any of that, they'll know I'm looking around."
