The pilot was called "The Cage" and was never aired. In the TV series, they did a two-part episode called "The Menagerie" which was essentially a recap of the pilot except that Spock committed mutiny to return Christopher Pike to the planet. Spock was on the Enterprise in the pilot, but not as first officer. Gene Roddenberry's wife, Majel, played the first officer (and later Nurse Chappel and eventually Deanna Troy's mother).

Robby from "Forbidden Planet" had to have been the inspiration for the robot in "Lost In Space". The head torus thingie Robot had isn't on Robby, but they look amazingly similar.

Yeah, I'm a geek.

She even fed me dinner while I played Missile Command and Space Invaders on my Apple II. But yes, she is the one who died in the car accident. That has and will haunt me forever.
