Seniors stranded after thieves pilfer golf cart batteries

Thieves at a giant, gated community for seniors in California have left almost two dozen residents stranded by stealing the batteries from their golf carts, the Los Angeles Times reports.

The thieves were apparently after valuable copper when they made off with 22 batteries, which cost up to $700. They struck on Thanksgiving, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day when many residents of the Laguna Woods senior community are out of town, the Times reports.
