Is it just me or are people REALLY short-tempered lately?

OMFG! Here and on another message board I frequent (science-related) ... the snipers and snappers are out in full force!
Everything is taken 150% literally and any questioning or good-natured-ribbing is met with a snarky attack.

Peeps need to unplug for the holiday weekend - get off the intertubes and get out into nature and reasses our priorities/perspectives, IMHO.

That is all.

I used to post on another forum where I racked up a total post count of over 22,000 before quitting due to the unfriendly atmosphere. I revealed too much about myself, depression and life circumstances wise and become the but of more than a few jokes and the laughing stock of some. After a while I just felt I didn't need that any more despite having built up something of a home base there over 10 years or so.

back in the late 80s/early 90s and it was pretty shitty there. No mods, no rules and complete anonymity lead to some pretty outrageous keyboard commandos. Still, it was fun.

I imagine there must be a few small holdouts here and there but do people still use it for talking much? I think Usenet is now almost entirely a binary, mostly pirated software and porn, distribution medium now.

I haven't loaded up a newsreader in a good 15 years though. I imagine there are still some discussion boards there but I bet a lot of them are just used for requests to the binaries groups.

I just remembered a co-worker bemoaning the state of his favorite movies groups - nothing new is ever posted any more. I wanted to tell him he was probably pretty lucky as i imagine the mpaa and riaa are looking pretty hard at those places now. I'd bet somebody is keeping track.

If you want to download a movie Usenet is one of your better options in terms of safety. The reason is that most of the other distribution mediums like torrents and other p2p software have you acting as a server of the content you are downloading as well as a client. This means they can get you on distribution, whereas Usenet is all one directional if you are downloading.

No disagreement at all...None...However,I am compelled to take extreme issue with HOW you choose to word it...There is something horribly wrong here...When I figure out what,I'll be back to throw a coniption fit,the likes of which you've never seen...

Joking.Well.Only half joking.I don't see this as anything new.Maybe more of it,but not new.
