(54,256 posts)That's why I started using Scroogle.
As I understand it, Scroogle uses google, but through a 'few 'remote'(?) servers so your tracks are covered.
Or something like that.
Oh...and no ads.

(27,677 posts)DuckDuckGo is a search engine that is based in Valley Forge, Pennsylvania and uses information from crowd-sourced sites (like Wikipedia) with the aim of augmenting traditional results and improving relevance. The search engine philosophy emphasizes privacy and does not record user information.

pokerfan
(27,677 posts)you can make it your homepage by tools - preferences - general - startup - use current page(s) but I just have it set as my default search engine:

(5,849 posts)I want to make it my default search engine, but of course it's not in my current dropdown list. I did a search in Mozilla, and found DuckDuckGo HTTPS, Lite SSL, HTML SSL . . . and others. How do you determine which one is best??

(60,010 posts)Won't be getting an Android phone either.
And closed out my gmail account, went with Opera in browser email program.
"Google said Tuesday it will require users to allow the company to follow their activities across e-mail, search, YouTube and other services, a radical shift in strategy that is expected to invite greater scrutiny of its privacy and competitive practices. The information will enable Google to develop a fuller picture of how people use its growing empire of Web sites. Consumers will have no choice but to accept the changes.
The policy will take effect March 1 and will also impact Android mobile phone users, who are required to log in to Google accounts when they activate their phones. "

Does anyone know if Yahoo is also in on the 'we'll track you everywhere' stuff too?
It's not that I DO anything, just that I am against the process on principle!!
