(149,640 posts)Well, it does cover our driveways, but we don't park there!
Thanks!
Tuesday Afternoon
(56,912 posts)brings to mind wisteria ... sorta. very pretty
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,640 posts)I hadn't thought of that, actually. But wisteria has an amazing fragrance; not so the jacaranda.
Glad you like it, my dear Tuesday Afternoon!

(55,014 posts)how long does it flower? I know there are some in Tucson, but I have never "lived" with one.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,640 posts)It will have flowers well into the summer...
They are easy to grow. They come from South America, and our climate here in CA suits them.
I'm not sure, but it might need more water in Arizona. Ours is on a drip irrigation and as you can see, it's very happy.

(4,243 posts)Is that your tree?
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,640 posts)It is. And it was my choice to put in that spot. I see it every day, and I love it...

(4,056 posts)One of the times I stayed in Rome, our hotel had a huge Jacaranda in front of it. Never mind the mess, they're just breathtaking! I love the Med soooo much, and Jacaranda and bougainvillea just make me miss it more.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,640 posts)They love a tropical climate, being from South America.

Quite pretty. And yes, quite messy.
But hey....purple trees, dammit! Eh, wot.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,640 posts)After awhile, the flowers dry out, and then sweeping them is easy.
I can't get enough of the color either!

(47,558 posts)Just glad there's not one in my front yard.

(21,849 posts)Maybe one that looked like a jaguar.
I didn't know what a jacaranda was. Now I know -- it is a tree with beautiful bluish-purple blooms in the spring. Also, from the other posters, I learned not to park under one.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,640 posts)How interesting...but of course, if you didn't know what it is, it's completely open to interpretation.
It does rather sound like a cat!
The blooms are a bit sticky--but they blow off when you drive away.

(21,675 posts)growing up in OC, we had two large jacaranda trees on our corner. messy, but pretty...
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,640 posts)I love it when I see them as I drive by...

(1,819 posts)Mine is tall and scrawny, and it's never bloomed. Well, to be fair, every few years we have a hurricane that doesn't blow it down, but does some pretty good damage to it.
Now, my royal poincianas are an entirely different story. I'll try to post a pic of them later.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,640 posts)Hurricanes can be so damaging...
I'd love to see a pic of your royal poincianas!
I've never grown those...
