I'm getting email notices from people I know that claim that they're awaiting my response to their requests.
I am not even a member of linked in.

(14,400 posts)Unless maybe you've got a bunch of router enthusiast friends.
Unless you've set up an account I don't think you should be getting LinkedIn requests. That being said I once set up a quickie account to check out some old friends and it didn't take long for the connection requests to come rolling in.

(46,731 posts)I have never set up an account. Could someone have figured out my email address and made on for me? Or is there some sharing information going on with Facebook?

(14,400 posts)I can't think of a reason why someone would want to set you up an account.
It's not that intrusive of a networking site usually so it's probably not anything more than annoying.
If you're getting requests from someone you really know check back with them otherwise I'd probably just spam filter the lot.

... but are just come-ons from the whores on Madison Avenue (sorry Paul & Art).

I try to keep as low a profile as possible and don't answer ANYTHING that I'm
not positive that I initiated.

... and gave them your email address?

The online hucksters are getting more and more ways to make connections and/or get
your phone #/addresses.
.
If your friends say no... I'd chalk it up to the mysterious and sometimes ugly way of
the Intertubes.

This SpelChek doesn't like "Intertubes".

(12,296 posts)If you don't know them, they could be spammers or random people looking to 'network' by accumulating as many connections as possible.
I use to to connect to recruiters, former co-workers (for references and to stay in touch) and they also have a 'jobs feed' you can subscribe to if you're on the market & articles by 'important people'.

(46,731 posts)It's just part of the programming. But I can understand how they make the connections because they link friends groups to friend groups.
I just couldn't figure out how LinkedIn was doing it.

(12,296 posts)... invitations themselves come from people who (are supposed to) know you.
