xpost from gaming - Microsoft does a complete 360 and walks away

from bad DRM ideas:

http://news.xbox.com/2013/06/update

An internet connection will not be required to play offline Xbox One games – After a one-time system set-up with a new Xbox One, you can play any disc based game without ever connecting online again. There is no 24 hour connection requirement and you can take your Xbox One anywhere you want and play your games, just like on Xbox 360.

Trade-in, lend, resell, gift, and rent disc based games just like you do today – There will be no limitations to using and sharing games, it will work just as it does today on Xbox 360.

also here's a pretty funny, smart-ass response from Sony (Presumably from before M$ changed their mind):

Why the hell didn't MS do their research before they made the disastrous announcement at E3?

Smooth n Easy was a product Standard Brands (which eventually became part of RJR Nabisco) invented in the 1970s. It was gravy in margarine bar form and you just melted it in a saucepan. They did thousands of tests to determine melt time, consistency...everything but flavor; no one at Standard Brands ate any, and when it hit the stores no one liked it.

Developing for the next bench seems to be Microsoft's modus operandi. Remember their track record in operating systems. W8 needs a touchscreen but they sell the idea it's optional, the first fifteen versions of windows were sold as mouse-optional, Windows Phone comes with Office so you can wake up at 2am and review spreadsheets from the Uijongbu office...
