Now that we're back in the 1950s, what will you adapt from those times?

I just got my hair cut, and for a few weeks will be rocking a bit of a Elvis bouffant.

I've also chosen to grow out my sideburns, but I have not chosen to lynch black activists.

What's your adaptation?

Hula Hoops, 3-D glasses, the five cent chocolate bar that actually tasted like chocolate, the 50's classic cars,Davy Crocket jacket, vanilla cokes, 45's, drive in movies, drive in restaurants, dime store blue plate specials...
on the flip side we had massive racism depending on where you lived depended a lot of who they disliked. I lived in Chicago and while no one seemed to have obvious hate to minorities on a city bus or the el neighborhoods were "color coded". But other minorities were also disliked in the city and listening over any neighbors fence or the corner bar and you would pick up plenty of buzz words even if you were five years old.
But many had dreams of a better time. They never thought we would go backwards and have to fight to earn those rights again.

I have seen one swallowtail on the butterfly bushes, but no monarchs yet. We also have the little white ones on the lavender plants.

No cicadas here yet, fortunately! We just got fireflies about a week ago. And I finally saw a hummer on the yuccas. Cute little bugger!

They must not have been to his liking because he flew away.

I haven't put out the feeders here. At the end of last summer, this yard was full of yellow jackets. Love the hummers hate the bees. It's not too late to buy food coloring and mix up sugar water.

I knew no one could tell, but I completely lost my train of thought and asked the teacher if I could be excused to go to the restroom. One of those shitty junior high moments in life you never forget.

The elections of 1952 and 1956 were the single biggest mistakes of American history, before the future single biggest mistakes of history, the Eisenhower clone Reagan, the Warren Commisson's Ford, the three Bush's and the Paul family

I like Adlai.
Smartest person ever to run for President yet the public wanted the man who brought Nixon to fame and was a war monger general.

BTW, the 50s sucked for most people. It was not the fabled Norman Rockwell time that was pictured for the vast majority of the democratic party.

Oh, wait, this is the lounge, it is suppose to be light.

Gimme some Elvis and Little Richard and Jerry Lee Lewis please.

Don McLean's American Pie didn't make any sense back before 1958

and the horse with no name was still trotting away on the east coast, not yet going to that dessert

and the world couldn't yet say

Who was better, Koufax or Gibson? (Damn, that is the question that broke the computers. There just is no answer to that.)
(being that we know now that there indeed is an an answer for WHY (yesterday it was revealed, WHY=NADER).

It streams (for free) over 12,000 episodes of over 150 different shows -- I like the fact that I can
listen to them and do other things at the same time.

And the salary I make now transported into the 1950. Of course, as a woman I would not be able to buy my own house, so I'd prolly marry either: 1) a gay man who needed a beard. Or 2) a doctor with really good tranq's so I could sleep my way through the sexist racist, cigarette-smoking, asbestos insulated decade I was born in!!!!

I am already wearing used clothes. Not 'vintage' although some might call it that, but just whatever used looks good.

See a movie from the 70s like "Bullit" or "Harold and Maude" and you can find that online for cheap.

There's a lot of 50s style clothing - made in the 70s for the grandpas of that time
