Flying dreams are USUALLY very happy dreams. My BIL had never had one, but...

... he was raised in Minnesota and was heavy into ice skating over the
winters. He told me he finally understood the JOY in flying dreams when
he had one involving skating all by himself for MILES on previously
untouched sheer black ice, kick-G-----L-----I-----D-----E,
kick G-----L-----I-----D------. etc.

In my dreams I'll sometimes get into an airplane, the wings will fold in, and then we drive down the highway like we're on a bus. Nightmare averted. If the plane actually leaves the ground the flight is always terrifying.

If I'm not trapped in some doomed flying machine the only "flying" I do in my dreams is getting blown around uncontrollably by the wind, like I'm in a tornado.

But I do have gliding dream where I can glide effortlessly along, without skates, on any flat surface, no fear of falling down. Gumby! I can also jump effortlessly too, three quarters across a basketball court, slam dunk! Sometimes I can swim in the air a bit too, do a slow summersault just as if I'm in the water, or effortlessly do a one-armed handstand.

In real life I'm a danger to myself and others on skates, skateboards, surfboards, or skis. I think my most inglorious accident was skiing. I was getting off the chairlift and it was very rutted and icy. I slid down out of control and knocked over the people ahead of me like bowling pins.
