Is there any way to get away from the fucked up image naming-format they impose on users?
If I upload three pictures of a carnival, I want them to show up as
carnival01.jpg
carnival02.jpg
carnival03.jpg
Instead, I get:
carnival01_asdfr6469a40as4d4f84049840.jpg
carnival02_qpeojdpoijasidjfpijp12g8898as.jpg
carnival03_hf49849479a834aojagkjqojefc.jpg
WTF?
I understand that this is some sort of ill-considered ploy to make users' galleries less vulnerable to casual browsing, but why don't they let me opt out of this idiotic format?
Or maybe they do allow me to opt out, but their increasingly fucked up interface prevents me from figuring out how to do it?
Help!

(8,217 posts)I didn't know they changed things that way.
Kinda scared to check now.

(63,217 posts)I used "carnival" as an example, but I'm actually looking to upload a large number of small images that need to be sequential in an identifiable way. Photobucket used to allow this, but not any longer.
Probably because they want to monetize me in some way.

(6,154 posts)is likely to prevent naming conflicts. They will have an internal SQL (or similar) database of all the images on the site. They need to be able to index this database on some "primary key". This key needs to be a unique identifier for every image on the site. It's likely they are appending this key to the end of the image name to prevent namespace collisions and the like.

(63,217 posts)I also use imageshack for one-off uploads.
I'm leery of shopping around for image hosts out of fear of inadvertently posting my nice vacation pics on some porn hot-spot.

(82,333 posts)I just need a host for smartass pictures. I rarely look at them again.

(63,217 posts)I use it any time I want to post an individual snark-pic. You can upload to it without creating an account.

(12,132 posts)one-offs are easy there and you don't have to sign up for an account
just click upload and either give a url or browse for a pic on your computer.
If you let it, it will also show you your last 3 or 4 images uploaded for easy access in case you needed to see what that was (I use that feature in place of my short term memory which is shot all to hell.)

I will say their captcha anti-robo-posting images are getting more and more annoying though. They now use both audio and video whether you want to hear a Mr Clean commercial or not. They also use the regular funky letters thing but it's just random as far as I can tell whether you get that or a loud commercial waking up your co-worker.

(1 post)Hi Orrex,
That's called scramble file name. You can disable that feature! Here's how:
The option to turn off the file name scrambling is available on the new Photobucket site. You will find the steps to disable that feature in the following article: http://photobucket.zendesk.com/entries/21598190-how-to-turn-off-the-scrambling-of-your-file-names
Hope this helps!

I searched and searched and wasn't able to find that. I even looked for answered on google with no success.
If I can switch off that feature, then I retract my earlier statement re: suckage. Can't do it from work, but I'll try when I get home.
Thanks!

(6,011 posts)Welcome to DU, Photubucksupport!
Did a bell go off at Photobucket Security Agency HQ to alert you to a derogatory remark made on the internet?
Orrex
(63,217 posts)And it's especially strange because I had previously submitted a similar (though less profane) complaint/comment on the Photobucket feedback applet, with no response.
Can't wait to try it out!
