scan of a skinny woman vs. a 250 pound woman. Showed an enlarged heart, pressure on the ball sockets of the hips, etc. Really brought health home to me. I am drinking less diet coke too and that has helped I'm sure because aspartame gets the insulin going.
Amazing all the information at your fingertips because of the DU and the interwebs. What online information changed your life?

(60,010 posts)Have you looked at the amount of sodium in a can of soft drink?
One of the nasty lil tricks of soda makers, esp. Coke, is that it has high salt content, which is suppsoed to make you feel "unquenced" and thus wanting more.
Have you tried making iced tea with honey?
Several flavors of tea, like camomile, etc. make a marvelous iced tea, plus are healthy for ya.
Now, I am dying to hear about your "fast" diet...details, pls.

(118,728 posts)days of your choice. You go to bed hungry two nights a week. People lose 2 pounds a week on it. It is healthy. It gives your digestive system a break. And it is easy to maintain. A diet you can maintain for life. On my fasting days I just eat the protein and the vegetable for dinner. Then no snack at night. My schedule is such that it is not hard to do that (I wake up really late in the day). http://thefastdiet.co.uk/ And yes ofcourse teas. I have some herbal berry tea which is good with a little cold water. I have a cupboard full of herbal tea actually. The hard part will be not using any sweetener with said tea. I also have some lemon juice in the fridge. So I have a few glasses of that at night. Anyway. I'm happy and motivated and optimistic about this. Thanks for your encouragement.

(6,011 posts)I heard Michael Mosely being interviewed on the radio recently.
I was talking with my friend about eating meat. We agreed that humans would have to get quite a bit of exercise chasing down a deer or rabbit. Fishing along lakes or rivers, if near where you live, not so much (fishing from a boat would require paddling, at least)
I see from this article that people should eat protein according to recommended guidelines. That would not mean meat at breakfast, lunch, and dinner the way some men like to eat, believing that they should eat like lumberjacks, I suppose!
Michael Mosely and two scientists' opinions about how & why this diet works well-

(118,728 posts)it while I was doing a traditional diet. Then I read somewhere that aspartame cause your insulin to react and store fat even though it has no calories. So I stopped the diet coke. And lost the 4 pounds. So I'm wary of stevia. Already asked someone I know in Japan if there were any safety complications with stevia (which the Japanese have been using for 30 years). They said no problem. But I don't know if stevia in my tea will help me lose weight. So I'll just stay a way from it while I can stand plain tea. And maybe start to add it to my tea and see if it makes a difference after a while. Yes. I was a lumberjack in another life. I will try and eat a salad without chicken tomorrow. That should add up to 400 calories.

(115,782 posts)that said it wasn't any better for you than the regular stuff. It's also bad for you, but in a different way. Now I drink iced tea with no sweetener of any kind. Another advantage to iced tea is that you get a lot of exercise making regular trips to the bathroom...
