I don't mean to be cruel but we have this one cat who is afraid of everything and this poor thing is hiding under our bed-which seems to be his safe zone.
He came out from under the bed in hopes to get some food and he heard a huge bang and his little legs rush back to the bed.
poor thing.
anyways I just hope other people's pets are doing better.

(21,020 posts)take the noise out of them, they'd be great.
I like to see them on TV, but not in person.
The sound waves going through my body freak me out. It's almost painful.

(6,581 posts)He's asleep in the couch like it's any other night. There are a lot of fireworks going off all around right now, since it gets dark here around 10-10:15 pm in early July.

(60,010 posts)He is wedged up against my leg, shaking the whole top, keyboard and puter.
And this is on 10mg of Valium.
His, not mine.
Across the highway, about 3/4 mile off, are a bunch of fools shooting off what sounds like cannons.
They obviously have bought out the illegal fireworks stand.
Plus, there is a thunder storm approaching, which the dog hates, so in the background of cannon fire, come the booms of thunder.
The ONLY saving grace is no one on my street is doing fireworks.
The down side is we will be hearing them for several nights this week, damn fools seem to have learned delayed gratification, and they save some up for later.

(21,020 posts)My two girls would be hiding in their crates right now, after chowing down on their natural calming tabs, except the twits down the hill are either out of town, or were too broke to buy their stinking firecrackers this year.
I guess no nearby towns are putting them on (legally) either, because even though they'd be a few miles away, these two can hear thunder when it's 10, 20, or even more, miles away.
Fireworks suck.

(17,086 posts)We live six blocks from the park where they do it. She was on my lap for the first ten minutes of test fires and then retreated into the bedroom, leaving me covered in dog hair. Amazing how fast she sheds when she's scared. On the plus side, I had a great view just from walking across the street and looking down it.

(30,742 posts)Our previous dog was so scared by the noise that she once got stuck under a bed. It was a captain-style bed, in my son's room. We had to remove the mattress and lift the bed to get her out.

(31,391 posts)The cats were never bothered. Last night our current dog, Snowy, was spread out under the ceiling fan in the room where I was
watching TV and barely moved--even when the sound of the fireworks going off at the nearby
stadium could be heard over the sound of the TV.
It's strange how some dogs/cats are bothered and others aren't.

(10,237 posts)We live right behind the high school where they have turned a simple little fire works display into Noise-a-paloosa ,starting at 2 P.M
with assorted disco dribble with 8 slave made subwoofers belting out 50 cycle distortion followed by tacky fake patriotic country western for an hour or two then some soothing X inspired industrial dip shit rave monotony . By this time most animals in a three square mile radius are foaming at the mouth when the combination line dancing and Koto music starts ,this lasts thru the over priced dinner option and then as the sun sets gently in the west the semi professional but very expensive festival of war bullshit starts.
Not far from here in Simi Valley Cal. over a dozen people were injured when their fire works display messed up --call me a joyless old fart but this holiday has become another man made hell .

(4,473 posts)We have some idiots who live behind us who set off fireworks every July 4th, frequently until one or two in the morning. Apparently, the concept of "their neighbors have to go to work in the morning" means nothing to them.

(16,993 posts)Last night, I was in bed at 11:30 and heard fireworks, which aren't permitted in the city by law. I thought how rude and inconsiderate those people were, since some need to sleep so they can work tomorrow (today). Also, I thought of all the animals outdoors and the wildlife that's likely traumatized by the noise, plus the danger to property from fire.
It's not like they can't see fireworks if they want to, the city spends over $100,000 on them, plus lots of private organizations do fireworks as well, all professionally presented with safety in mind.
Several years ago, the kids down the street were standing in a neighbor's driveway--the house was vacant at the time--shooting off fireworks. The next morning, I found several spent fireworks on my WOOD deck, in my back yard.
I was not nice when I spoke to the father.
