We hear who cooks for you? throughout the summer and fall, but I've never seen one of the questioners.

That's what they look like on google images, anyway.

You can listen to owl sounds here-

A couple of times I woke during the night when all else was quiet, except an occasional train passing through town, and I heard a low hoo-hoo-hoo...hooooo, and a more distant response. It sounded just like the Great Horned Owl pair calling.

If you have ever had a Great Horned whoooing outside your window you would say that bird needs a volume knob.

I agree with you except ... without my hearing aids everything is peaceful at night. [img][/img]

I imagine it was in the large redwood or deodar cedar at the park.

We have scrub jays yakking at each other early in the morning outside the window at the head of our bed. They have babies each year, and recently I laughed when I saw a 'preteen' jay squeakily pleading for a snack and twice the parent bird stuffed a morsel into its beak, then nudged the kid off the branch. It seemed to say, "Okay here's a snack! Now, don't just sit there, get some exercise!"

In the spring we had a Mockingbird that never slept. He sang at all hours, from various trees in our yard or those around us. I love hearing them, but it can be hard to fall asleep again with a bird calling nearby!
