Must be another reason - many don't pay much attention to Canada, so may not know.

20+ years from now, a person visiting Canada with a name of Harper is gonna get some really strange reactions methinks.

Harper is just speeding up the process.

Not really expecting an upswing in my lifetime anymore.

Sad - we really do have one of nicest countries on Earth,

My son is Ian, and my daughter is Evan. If she was a boy we had a different name picked out which is strange considering Evan is usually a boy's name. We liked it as a girl's name.

It's still that way. I graduated from HS in a class of 44 (Grew up in Hartford, attended co-ed religious preparatory education in the rural suburbs.) and half the women in my class were named Mary- and the other half had very-traditionally Irish-Catholic names like Claire, Caitlin, Siobhan and Shauna.

Older names. My daughter is the only known Dorothy. Everyone knew her. My boys, Kurt and Bryant. Kurt after my dad, and Bryant, my husband didn't want a jr, so I named him that. It means son of Brian, which, he is!

The way it's pronounced in other languages sounds better than how it's pronouced american style.
